What Is a UAE Pass? A Complete Guide
Did you know you can sign up for an Al Ansari account using your UAE Pass? We were, in fact, the first exchange house in the UAE to accept UAE Pass sign-ups and sign-ins on our mobile app and online portal. A few clicks and you should be able to use our app to send money online from the UAE or utilize other value-added services, such as credit card payments, bill payments, and management of Al Ansari Exchange prepaid cards.
What is a UAE Pass, who is it for, and why should you get it? We explain it here in detail, so read on.
What Is UAE Pass?
The UAE Pass is a single sign-on (SSO) solution from the UAE government, a collaborative work by Digital Dubai, the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), and the Department of Government Enablement (DGE). It was launched at GITEX in 2018.
Your UAE Pass is your digital national identity, enabling access to the digital services (i.e., apps and websites) of more than 12,000 government departments, semi-government entities, and private enterprises in the UAE.
Have you ever experienced signing up for mobile applications like Canva, Zoom, and Adobe Acrobat using your Google account — choosing “Sign Up with Google” or “Continue with Google” when prompted to create your account? That’s how single sign-on works. You use your credentials stored with an identity provider (IdP) (Google, in this case) to sign in or create an account on a third-party app or website instead of creating a separate username and password.
Similarly, once you have a UAE Pass account, your identity credentials are stored digitally in the UAE Pass platform. You then use the single sign-on method (i.e., sign into your UAE Pass) to access UAE Pass-enabled services.

How to Get a UAE Pass
Anyone in the UAE can sign up for and obtain a UAE Pass, including citizens, residents, and even visitors. Registration is easy and simple.
1. Download the UAE Pass app.
Download the UAE Pass app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
2. Create your UAE Pass account.
Follow these instructions on how to register for a UAE Pass:
Create an account as a citizen, resident or visitor
Open the UAE Pass app and choose “Create account” to register as a new UAE Pass user. Read the terms and conditions, toggle the switch that says you have read them, and click “Confirm.”
On the next screen, choose your UAE Pass user type.
Are you registering as a citizen or resident?
If you have an Emirates ID, click “Scan now.” Once that’s done, you will be asked to review the information the app pulled from your Emirates ID card. If everything is correct, click “Confirm”, add your mobile number and email address on the next screen, and click “Verify.”
If you don’t have an Emirates ID, select “No, I don’t have an Emirates ID card.” Provide your full name, mobile number, and email address.
Are you registering as a visitor?
Choose which ID you will use: passport or GCC ID card. Choose the latter if you are a citizen or a resident of a Gulf Cooperation Council country.
If you have a passport or GCC ID, click “Scan now”. The app will pull information from your passport or GCC ID and ask you to verify your personal details on the next screen.
If you don’t have a passport or GCC ID, select “No, I don’t have a passport/GCC ID.” Provide your full name, mobile number, and email address on the subsequent screens.
Verify your mobile number and email address.
The UAE Pass app will send a one-time password (OTP) to both your mobile number and email address. Enter the mobile number OTP. Once that’s confirmed, input the email address OTP.
Click “Continue”. At this point, you will have a verified mobile number and email address.
Nominate your PIN.
Once you have successfully verified both your mobile number and email address, you will be asked to set a four-digit PIN. You will use this to authorize UAE Pass log-ins on partner service providers and to sign documents (a service available only to verified accounts).
3. Verify your UAE Pass account.
To make the most use of UAE Pass, upgrade your account to a verified (qualified) account. There are three UAE Pass account levels: basic, verified (advanced), and verified (qualified). Only verified (qualified) accounts have full UAE Pass benefits
Basic Account
If you did not scan an Emirates ID or registered as a visitor, you would have a basic account. A basic UAE Pass account can be used to sign into online services but has limited access to services. You cannot use it to digitally sign and add documents.
Verified (Advanced) Account
If you scanned your Emirates ID, you would have a verified (advanced) account. Verified (advanced) accounts have digital vault and digital signing capabilities. With an advanced verified account, you can sign documents with an advanced electronic signature (AES).
Verified (Qualified) Account
To enjoy all the benefits of the UAE Pass system, upgrade your advanced verified account to a qualified verified account. Use the UAE Pass app’s face biometrics feature to activate biometrics verification or visit a physical UAE Pass kiosk to register your fingerprints.
Verified (qualified) accounts have all verified (advanced) benefits, plus they can sign documents with a qualified electronic signature (QES). This is a court-approved signature with the same legal stature as one signed using wet-ink on paper.
Benefits of the UAE Pass
The UAE Pass is easy to set up and use but extremely powerful and gives you access to various services, including official transactions with UAE government agencies.
At the basic level, the UAE pass gives you single sign-on capabilities. You won’t have to think up a unique username and password for every app and website you must access. You just need to authorize these apps and websites to use your UAE Pass log-in credentials.
This minimizes the risks of using multiple usernames and repetitive, weak passwords that online hackers can easily crack. With the UAE Pass, your credentials are stored securely in the UAE Pass platform. As long as you keep your PIN secure (especially if you have biometrics activated), you should be able to prevent its unauthorized use and access.
Do more with a verified UAE Pass account. You have a digital vault and can authenticate and digitally sign documents with an advanced- or qualified-level electronic signature.
